The power of plants
To tolerate the extremely dry conditions of its natural habitat, the mountains of West and South Africa, myrothamnus has developed an amazing survival strategy called reviviscence. In the dry season, during the plant’s apparent “death”, its cells produce a sugary substance known as trehalose which allows the plant to rehydrate and revive as soon as the first rains fall. Its ability to survive environmental stress and rehydrate after a period of drought makes it a model of resilience, inspiring anti-ageing solutions for stress-induced premature skin ageing.
Skincare benefits of Myrothamnus extract (organic plant)
In cosmetics, myrothamnus (organic plant) extract helps to prevent cellular ageing, thus helping to protect skin from premature ageing caused by stress. It works in two ways: not only does it help to offset the effects of stress on fibroblasts at gene level, but it also demonstrates the potential to boost skin ageing protection systems in stressful situations.
Responsible sourcing
Protecting soil and biodiversity is a long-standing commitment at Clarins. Our extract is obtained from organic myrothamnus grown in accordance with good practices for the harvesting of wild plants.
